Healthy Bod

after a good incline walk and then a nice stretch out on the lawn under the moon last night, to come inside to fresh berries and peaches, i felt revived & strong and reflected much on health. feeling so thankful for a capable body, for a knowledge and a desire for cleanliness of body in all sorts, for a sensitivity to what my body needs. must share some linky inspiration to health!

A Delicious Solution

so the 2 for $5 deal stole me over and i purchased my favorite college cereal...the one i had to splurge on then and the one i had to splurge on now! the only problem is that my excitement for a good bowl of cereal exceeded the taste factor...it just doesn't taste as yummy as i remember...and since i've got 2 whole boxes, something had to be done. so i pulled out a little french vanilla yogurt & fresh raspberries and wallah, it's delicious again! try it, it's yummy.

Garden Light

okay this officially has become a "raspberry" blog! just can't help but to fall in love with the vibrancy of the colors and tastes within the garden. loved picking the sweetness again this weekend and enjoyed the tastes of peach cobbler, peach shakes, raspberry jam, potatoes, cantaloupe, green beans and all the freshness in between! next year i think we'll quite our day jobs and set up shop!

Tried & True

tried the Rookie Cookie recipe for Sweet Pea's Oven Fries and loved loved them. went perfectly with 2 barbequed burgers, his beef, mine veggie! will say however that the sweet potato seemed to overpower the mixture of delightful spices, so next time, we are going to spice it up even more!

Mmm Mmm

not to turn this into a raspberry blog, but while my in-laws have been gallivanting throughout NYC, steve-0 and i have been taking care of their vast garden. the other night we picked & picked & picked raspberries and then washed them and laid them out across the counter to dry. it was such a deliciously vibrant sight!
it became strongly apparent to me just how wonderful it is to have a garden. the cantaloupe is so large, juicy and tasteful, the peaches smell delightful and are distinctively more peachy, the raspberries keep coming and coming and continually keep me happy, the corn is a keeper in our freezer and brought out on many occasions, and the pumpkins, squash, tomatoes, & apricots are a lovely sight amongst the green.
it's a lot of work, but work well worth the effort. the kind of work that you can literally taste.

Best Part

the best part of my work week are the 3 days that i get to carpool with my hunk of a husband. we play air drums and air guitar in the morning to pump us up for yet another day & another dollar and then on the way home when we're a little tired which causes me to be a little looney ;o) we have conversations like how i saw a fake person sitting in the passenger seat of the car that just passed us. he thinks i'm crazy, i tell him to speed up and see for himself, but since the car is long gone, we just laugh some more and i start to really feel crazy...but i know i saw it!

Garden Bounty

seeing a bowl full of fresh red raspberry's picked from your own backyard and then mixing them up with A LITTLE pectin and A LOT of sugar to make a bounty of freezer jam couldn't be any more satisfying!

not to mention, the perfectness of showing up to family dinner and smelling the aroma of homemade rolls and then looking at the container of homemade jam you so appropriately brought for your mom...that has delicious luck written all over it!

Farewell Summer

last night on a late night (late for us these days is 10 pm...oh married life!) ice cream run...because we've been really good and haven't purchased ice cream for at least a week and a half...we realized that it's getting dark earlier, it's a bit nippy out, and school has begun. This all means that sweet summer is coming to a close.
i can't quite get myself psyched up for the cold, but i've thought about our summer to do list and how we've tried to accomplish everything.
i'd say summer's been good to us!

Morning Glory

every morning on my way to work as i come around the byu bend, i catch sight of this breathtaking mountain. it is misty with sunlight just beginning to peak across the sky. i look forward to its grandness every day...a reminder of God's great hand in everything. not to mention it's a calming moment after having driven on the crazy freeway for 20 minutes, a must right before entering the office for the day!

Handcrafted Beauty

one of the many beautiful things that was made for my wedding was the sign in book. my dear friend catherine offered her beautiful book binding talent for the task. she asked what i wanted and i simply put my complete trust in her awesome ability to produce something perfect. she needed none of my guidance, i knew i would absolutely love the end product!
and the end product i did love. a classic bulky book + chocolate colored leather + a custom cutout H for the new last name i would acquire + funky paper on the inside + baby blue ribbon draped in between pages...
it holds wedding guests attended + wedding gifts received + our memories of the sweet day and has now become a journal of types holding summer activities, days to remember, and thoughts along the way.

nie nie IS an inspiration

last night while talking with lizzy, she told me of her latest christian + stephanie project which included gathering photos of them and their family to decorate the walls of their hospital rooms. the idea was to let the devoted doctors and nurses know what not only christian and stephanie looked like but what their lovely life entails. today as i saw liz's post, the outcome of the idea had unraveled beautifully.
we seem to all be humbled by this accident. i visit cjane first thing each day for an update and i check sporadically throughout the day. how amazing it is when things like this happen, to see how far reaching their friendship and love was extended. christian and stephanie are greatly loved and admired.
on liz's post, she also gave the invitation to share a memory of stephanie. my connection to stephanie is quite humorous actually. stephanie and i went to high school together but she would have never known that! i was 3 classes younger than her and remember her simply because she was of course one of those hip cheerleaders, not to mention a senior whom freshman idolize. i don't think i ever spoke a word to stephanie in high school but had a class with her also hip cheerleader sister lucy. years later, i walked into my new college apartment where i met my dear friend elizabeth. she had a picture of christian and stephanie and their at the time 3 children sitting on her window sill. i did a double take and we then laughed at the unexpected connection. as the years passed, i came to know and (actually talk!) with stephanie and visit with her family as i visited liz in AZ. i as well as all of you became obsessed with not only the old school gracie brunswick but the newer nieniedialogues. stephanie has an elegant + funky + inspiring way of sharing her life. she tells it how it is, doesn't discount us any of the humor, and really portrays the love that she has for motherhood, her husband, her faith, and her talents.
one way that stephanie has inspired me personally is through one of the lovely emails we have exchanged. this one from quite some time ago. after having visited the nielsons and meeting those darling children that i had always just oohed & awed over through the blog, i became really intrigued on how stephanie raised such curious + free spirited + interested + respectful + dream filled children. and her response has been dear to my heart since: "I let them enjoy life. I let them express life, and teach them to acknowledge the spirit in their life. (i swear by it)."
i have pondered this much and will i'm sure forever think of these words, especially in the years to come when i have my own children. thank you stephanie for sharing not just you but all of you with us.

Just Like When We Were Kids

a friday afternoon is the perfect time for a zoo visit, especially since it was on our must do summer list! as we drove to salt lake we talked about how long it had been since either of us had visited the zoo and i must say memories flooded back as soon as we entered the grounds!

the "limited edition" ghost of the bayou was one must reason to visit. they say that if he opens his big piercing blue eyes while you're watching, your dreams will come true. we got lucky and he did!

here's some memories for ya. remember the lion big mouth drinking fountain and the stretch your arms gorilla! the zoo wouldn't be the same without them!

one of the best parts of the zoo was the bird show. massive eagles, owls, groups of doves, talking parrots, all flying right over your head, so close that the whole audience screams and ducks! we even donated a dollar to the zoo, just so that we could see the bird take the money from steve's hand and put it in the donation box!

2 of our favorites, the beautiful tiger who roamed around and played in the water...unusual for a hot summer day...and feeding the giraffes. too bad we didn't know that the big pile of corn wasn't to be used as food for the giraffes because steve got all the onlookers going on it!

and lastly the many many monkeys at hogle zoo...they're just about on every corner...but who knew that their were so many weird looking ones!

Counting Blessings

it's interesting how tragic events & unexpected news can bring you to humbleness. i spent all day yesterday thinking about christian & stephanie, their unfortunate accident brought me to a somber humbleness of counting my blessings. terrible things can even happen to wonderful people and what a beautiful life and family christian and stephanie have shared with us. isn't it true that just like a rainbow after rain, their is always a blessing within a tragedy? it's wonderful to see the support of friends + onlookers sending their best wishes and prayers for the nielsons lizzy writes, design mom, she she says, my happy little life....people truly are genuine & compassionate.
it's times like these when i think about what my sis-in-law put so well, "It always seems so weird to me how life goes on. The day after Ralph's funeral, we went to the store, the kids were outside playing, life just moves on. I remember at the grave site, seeing how all of our lives had just stopped for a few days, but now as we were there saying goodbye, the world around us was still moving. People going places, kids running around, but ours had stopped." how do we endure tragedies and still feel the happiness of living? how do we not feel guilty for laughing and playing and enjoying, while someone else is suffering? my only answer is that we must put our trust in God, remember & pray for those less fortunate, and never forget to count our own blessings.
i appreciate that through nienie's accident, i gained a renewed sense of my purpose and responsibility while on this earth. i was reminded of the simple aspects of my religion that i haven't necessarily put forth enough effort to make a regular part of my days. i was reminded to be a little more devoted, a little more thankful, and to remember the big picture.
i count my blessings,
for a sweet sweet husband who knows my heart & dreams, who works so hard and shares his talents so freely, who surprises me, who wraps me in his arms, who has so much insight & knowledge up his sleeve, who is both interesting and interested, who gives and gives, who helps inside and outside, who gently teaches me the things i don't know or don't do so well, for loving me.
for the always peace in our home.
for my family and his. for the closeness of each of our families. for the differences & similarities of each. for how fortunate we are to see and be with them so often.
for the ability to watch & listen & learn from mistakes, from other people, from old and new opportunities.
for the innate faith i feel in Christ. for the testimony i have of its truthfulness. for the ever patient father above who listens to me, blesses me, and knows what's best for me.
for the many many people who have crossed my path and who have with their bits and pieces of individualism made me who i am today.
for my health & strength. abilities to walk and talk and dance and run and feel and taste and see and hear.
for beauty all around us. for trees and mountains and sky and clouds and rain and thunder and ponds and animals and grass and flowers and leaves and harvest and color and wonder.
for all that comes with being a woman. for sensitivity. for spiritualism. for sweetness. for motherhood.
for reminders and inspiration and introspecitivism and second chances and feelings and emotions and compassion and love.

today and for many days to come all thoughts & prayers will be turned toward stephanie "nie nie", Mr. Nielson, and their family. visit nie nie dialogues & cjane run for specific details and updates of their condition.
as I fast this day in their behalf, I feel so strongly of God's awareness of Stephanie and Christian. how God does ever have a plan, a purpose, and a love for each of us. our families can be together forever and His hand can be seen in everything if we are so willing to look. how miraculous His blessings are and can be, big and small.
if you feel so inclined, please join in prayers and fasting for this wonderful family and take their faithful example as a motivation to renew your own faith & spirit.

Gadgets We Love

love that people most often give gifts of things they love themselves. received a bounty of clever + handy + snazzy kitchen items that make me smile upon every use. have started to collect my own favorites along the way but must just share a few here.

magnetic/collapsible measuring cups.
sturdy + minimal space takers + stick together.

cookie/fruit spoons.
most definitely makes the perfect cookie dollop. thought that it appeared too small for the task but was overcome with delight when it scooped up so nicely and then the rubber bottom allowed me to simply push out the dough!

bristle brush knife holder.
who would have thought this would be so handy??? makes me feel like my knives are safe from scratching when placing anywhere i like in the large bristle brush area. can fit many a knives/scissors within and plus it's kinda fun to do!

Early Start

the alarm went off at 6:30 am on saturday morning with me asking why oh why the alarm was sounding so early on my day to sleep in!..but early morning fishing was on the agenda! with sleepy eyes, i knew i couldn't miss the invitation to join the hunt men and the canyon which promised a sun rise glowing over the lake, tall trees, breathes of freshness, and a perfectly peaceful start to the day.

we weren't the only ones who thought to go for an early morning fish!

A-lotta Shopping Sprees

my wallet is bulging with gift cards lately! i am estatic + grateful for people's generosity. emptied out 2 target and 3 bed, bath, and beyond gift cards last night, otherwise the pile would have been heftier! over a month past the wedding and we're still getting gift cards in the mail! the best kind of gifts...the ones that show up unexpectantly! think i've got a pretty good selection going here! don't know if i'll get another chance to be in target and hear my husband telling me to fill the cart with whatever i want...such fun...and so surreal!

Reception Goodbyes

sparklers & ribbons to wave as we said our goodbyes!...and it wouldn't be a wedding if my family didn't get the chance to do THIS to our getaway car!

the most incredible ending to our night was pulling into a self car wash where a man and his young boy were sitting. we pulled up, he said "you just get married?" we said "yes!" he chuckled and said "this one's on me" and then he proceeded to wash, scrub, and dirty up his car wash with string cheese, graham crackers, and guck while he told us to sit and enjoy a snow cone from the snow shack his son was running. we sat completely exhausted laughing at the fact that at 10 pm on our wedding night we were at a car wash eating a snow cone...not to mention we were incredibly grateful for his kindness.

The Day Before

it's going to be a loaded week over here at by M because we got our wedding photos back! so get ready for posts such as the day before, temple morning, reception, & reception goodbyes!

what would have been a lonely but still exciting pre-wedding manicure + pedicure session by myself, became a super girl afternoon as i was joined by my mom, my soon to be mother in law, my sister in laws & niece, aunts, good friend, and soon to be sister in law & niece. it was pure fun as we girl talked + giggled in one large room of busy bees working on our toes and fingers!

continuing into that evening was full flower fledging! my dear friend cat, her mother, & sisters spent hours upon hours cutting, placing, arranging, tying, and loving those gorgeous flowers into gorgeous bouquets, boutineres, and corsages. i obviously was the honored hair twirler + observer ;o) they worked SO hard and they turned out SO lovely.

One Whole Month

just after gushing to a co-worker about my sweet sweet husband and all that he did for my birthday/always does/not to mention she was mmming & aweing over a piece of cheesecake that he made,
this lovely arrived at my office door with the words, Happy One Month!

and he couldn't be any sweeter!

And a Golden Day it Was

what an absolutely wonderful day i had yesterday. woke up to my husband making belgian waffles topped with fresh mangoes & homemade whip cream to then covering my eyes and being led into the living room to be completely surprised by this gorgeous new coffee table! the best news is that it was designed & constructed with my husbands own 2 hands. i was in awe with the beautiful surprise. what a sneak to be working on such a grand surprise for the last 2 weeks!

he then spilled the details for the days events!
1-head to tibblefork canyon for a morning of 4-wheeling through the tall trees, wild flowers, lakes, streams, and blue sky.
2-after riding to our hearts content, cook up a little barbecue while overlooking canoers & kayakers.
3-return home, rest up, and get dressed up for fine cuisine at PF Changs.
4-eat our favorites: lettuce wraps & shrimp with candied walnuts + melon balls.
5-return home and join family for more gifts + the blowing out of candles a top my favorite lion house cheescake drizzled in fresh fruit, once again made especially by my husband!
6-enjoy a little firework show that actually became a rather large firework show!
7-and end the fabulous day in our little apartment making toasts to bubbly apple cider.

he couldn't have made it a better golden day for me!

{don't mind the big water mark on my husband's shirt, he couldn't resist joining the kids on the slip & slide !!!}

Pillows

it seems that every cute + perfect throw pillow is $39.99 or above
and that's not a steal when you want several if you know what i mean.
so,
second option was to find that same cute + perfect fabric and make my own throw pillows.
this became simply lovely when while shopping at ikea we spotted fabric that we were both giddy over and the price tag said clearance in bright red letters!
then,
it was on to opening up my new sewing machine (that i got 2 christmas' ago) and making the cute things.
i'll admit my sewing skills aren't quite prime but we love the custom pillows and we love that we did them all for under the cost of even one throw pillow in the stores!

:chilled raspberry soup:

met my mom today for a lunch date at the moa cafe. the delicious details of the menu steal my heart away. our personal favorite, the turkey croissant sandwich which features turkey, lettuce, crisp apples, and a cinnamon spread on a croissant. mmmm! however, today the featured soup was a chilled raspberry selection. we couldn't pass it up and so we dipped in with 2 spoons to 1 bowl, closing our eyes and pursing our lips in delight as the soup treat slid down into our happy tummies.
i was curious taste upon taste on how i could re-create this divine soup and i think i've got it.

raspberry yogurt- thinned by a bit of milk
plain yogurt- thinned by a bit of milk

fresh raspberries to top

:whole wheat pizza:

per your request, the recipe for the 20 minute whole wheat pizza delight!

1 (25) ounce package of active dry yeast
1 cup warm water
2 cups whole wheat flour
1/4 cup wheat germ
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon honey

preheat oven to 350 degrees
in a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. let stand until creamy, about 10 minutes.
in a large bowl, combine wheat flour, wheat germ, and salt. make a well in the middle and add the honey & yeast mixture. stir well to combine. cover and set in a warm place to rise for a few minutes.
roll dough on a floured pizza pan and poke a few holes in it with a fork.
bake in preheated oven for 5-10 minutes, or until desired crispiness is achieved.

my favorite toppings:
alfredo sauce
zucchini
white corn
mozzarella cheese

this week has =

being husband & wife for our first real week...which is awesome by the way!
starting a new job once again...i know i know didn't i just say that a month ago? but when blessings come and steps taken prepare you for other steps and when an opportunity is at hand and it feels right, you must take it! so yes this will be my 3rd new job in the last 8 months and all have come about at crazy times, but all is well and we're very grateful.
buying furniture...and filling in the spaces of our cute + cozy place, pictures to come!

:settling in:

it's our first week back and we're getting settled in quickly! our week of meals was planned starting off with the hunt tradition of monday night pizza. we made whole wheat + homemade alfredo + chicken + zucchini + white corn + peas from the garden pizza. it was delicious and a nice keeper for weekday lunches!
and then several nights this week have been spent spending all those lovely gift cards we received from the wed! lets just say we basically had a hay day shopping at ikea! we can't believe we get to furnish our whole house for free!
now on to finishing up the place for our house warming party!

:honeymoon:

hello friends! we, as in mr. hunt and i have returned from our honeymoon! prepare yourselves for this extra long post because we've got days of enjoyment to show! wedding pictures will be a couple of weeks but feel free to visit lizzy writes, catherine bloom, family fun and more family fun for a sneak peek!

first stop Las Vegas with a stay in the beautiful monte carlo. m&m's + strip sight seeing + a dehydrating 117 degrees!

onto Cali! cooler weather + lush flowers surrounding. sadly the san diego temple was closed but we had a look around the grounds and found steve's dream car waiting for him!

laguna beach was such a treat and a day was well spent there. mist + sun peeking through + bubbly waves + running & laughing + frisbee + little crabs + a sand castle & a mermaid + barefoot walks + exploring caves + rocks, texture, and extreme beauty.

had a hopper pass and so we hopped from california adventure to disneyland feeling like kids and enjoying running from ride to ride + screaming + putting hands up + cooling off in the kiddy pool area + playing until our feet couldn't run anymore!

back to LV for the last night. my husband went all out and surprised me with a grand suite in new york new york! an extremely large room + giddyness + a big flat screen + a jacuzzi + a view of the cool roller coaster and our first hotel monte carlo + silk bedding + the perfect ending to our already perfect trip.

LV sure knows how to feed and feed we did! lobster + steak + shrimp +rolls + steamed veggis + a night on the town + the belagio + an amazing water show + his first time seeing it in person + me excited for it being his first time seeing it + being thankful that i had a strong trusting man holding my hand along those streets!

it was a more enjoyable week that i can say.
24/7 with my new husband....my husband... :o)
wish we were back there already.
goes by too quickly but excited to settle in.
now onto being husband & wife in our little place in our little lives.
happy 1 week and 2 days to us!

:bridal session:

may i recommend doing bridals and may i recommend photography by mckenzie! in the planning stages, i wasn't so fond of doing bridals. i didn't see the reason for them since we would get plenty of wedding day shots, but my sweet sweet man bluntly said, "well those are the ones you want!" so, i did them and love them and now highly suggest them!
it is a moment when you can get all prettied up, get anxious for the real day, and be told your beautiful as passersby admire your posing for the camera!
it unfortunately was an extremely windy + cold day but the pictures mckenzie captured don't show my teeth chattering or shivers! she made me feel comfortable + stunning + natural. it was so enjoyable to be joined by my mom & a friend and feel like a bride for the first time.
the most difficult part of getting bridals was keeping them out of steve's hands so as not to spoil the surprise of my dress!

:to make your wedding your own:

one of the most enjoyable & memorable parts of my wedding preparation was doing as much as i could to make my wedding my own. my goal was to create an atmosphere reflecting the m+s personality but to do so by creating whatever i could with my own 2 hands or the 2 hands of dear friends. it is an incredible feeling to invent & make and then see all of the little pieces come together as one beautiful whole in the end. now i must say that you need adequate time to do projects along the way but making a list and then accomplishing projects here and there over the span of a few months was super fulfilling, exciting, and enjoyable for me. here are my recommendations for making your wedding your own:

send out personable bridesmaids mailers inviting that specific gal to be your bridesmaid. use wedding colors + themes to show the overall look for the wedding. include pictures + descriptions of what the bridesmaids need to purchase (clothing, accessories) & what you the bride will or have purchased for them. pick up free paint chips in your wedding colors and include as an easy & accessible way for your bridesmaid to take with her when she is trying to find the same color when out clothes shopping.

most paper product needs are easy to make on your own and will end up looking cuter in the end. for example, i needed 120 tags for my center piece wishing trees. i simply cut tags on my handy cricut machine and tied baby blue & lime green ribbon to them. i was able to choose the cute chocolate polka dotted paper & ribbon that i wanted instead of using plain 'ol tags.

make your own jewelery! there was something about making my own bridal jewelery that just enthused me. i loved the idea of wearing something unique & handmade opposed to store bought and found last minute at the local claire's. once again, you are able to specifically choose the details of your design, the exact colors, the size, and the best part is that if you try it all on and don't like the overall look, you can adjust it to your taste! making jewelery is surprisingly simple and inexpensive. go to your local craft or fabric store and pick up the beads of your choice, wire or elastic, small pliers and earring or necklace hooks and your set!

make your own accessories. i made these for my 2 little nieces ages 1 & 4. a large fake flower found at my local craft store attached to a simple headband found in a pack of four at target. these are quite popular and thus are overpriced. i made mine for about $3 and was much happier with the outcome of the look.

now much more make your ownness was had but it will have be to shared in the after wedding photos. however, making your wedding your own also means allowing others to share their talents with you. other things i included are:
:having a friend, who is also trying to jump into the wedding cake world, make my cake. allowing her the opportunity to expand her talent + become more widely known + me knowing that it was made by someone special.
:having a dear friend & her mother, who are quite the crafty pair, put together all of the flower arrangements. letting them run free with their exquisite creativity & being able to join the laughter and fun being had.
:watching my superior seamstress mother make baby blue polka dotted dresses for the little girls. watching them piece together and become such cutesy accents to the wedding.

when steve & i began talking marriage, i began searching for wedding inspiration. i was never one of those young girls who planned their big day at age 5!...i had no idea where to even start. but, i am a blogger and so my first thought of course was to topic search on fav blogs. some included Oh Happy Day, Frolic, & Black Eiffel. these then led me to wedding specific blogs like Brooklyn Bride & Snippet and Ink. the search is endless really, i continued to find more and more and got all the giddier along the way.
i began by saving every picture that drew my fancy onto my portable hard drive, organized them into computer files, and then sorted through to keep or delete.
before i knew it, the picture in my head of the overall wedding look was coming together. i figured out what i could make, how i could do this, how i could do that, and i printed pictures from my files as needed.
collecting pictures is a sure way to gain inspiration, get your mind rolling, and pinpoint your overall style + expectations.

not only do we have to think about wed plans but we have to think about our soon to be home. so a fresh coat of paint was in the plans! at first we thought oh-we'll-paint-this-and-we'll-paint-that but then we just settled on one wall for now. i can't help but admire the chocolatey goodness as it adds so much warmth to the room, a perfect little touch to our first place!

we helped continue a tradition started by steve-o's grandmother by being the soon to be bride & groom ;o) and attending a family barbeque where the entertainment was us getting asked questions to see how much we really know about eachother. a new trash can was filled with gifts and for each question we got right, we got to open a gift! i'll just say that we were really close to getting them all right...but we got to open all of the gifts anyway! a fun tradition that brings the whole family together and allows the groom to have some sort of part in the bridal shower realm! (and yes the lovely red sunburn blotchiness on my leg & feet is from the 4-wheelin' we did earlier in the day!)

:saturday's adventure:

i had never been 4 wheelin' before and so after we took a motorcycle ride around town, we got the itch to head to the mountains with the 4 wheeler! we explored the upper portions of PG seeing beautiful scenery, bouncing through plenty of mud ponds, & then finding several lovely streams where we could wash off the mud and enjoy the peaceful afternoon. it was some of the best fun!

:continue the heritage bridal shower:

my sis-in-law & grandmother put together a bridal shower for me this weekend! it was a uniquely themed continue the heritage or traditions shower. everyone seemed to comment on how successful and fun it was as it was an unknown theme to most. guests brought gifts of traditions that their own family has done to then pass on to steve & i. for example, i received, all of the party fixings for the 4th of july...super soaker's, barbecue tools, beach towels, recipes. all of the pizza fixings for a weekly pizza night. supplies for saturday morning cartoon watching, morning beauty rituals, nacho sunday snacking, family home evening, saturday morning breakfast, christmas breakfast, family heirlooms, family recipes, etc. etc. i was so thrilled with the creativity & awesomeness of the gifts people brought and it was so fun to listen to the stories of people's traditions. not to mention, it was SO much more meaningful than just playing a bunch of silly games!!! although i loved the one game that we did play, 2 teams had to make up the story of how steve & i met using the names of candy bars...and then they were read aloud. they were imaginative and hilarious!...and then i told the real story! this of course was followed by yummy food which my grandmother cutely stated is one of our traditions, eating!
it was wonderful and surreal, making me realize how quickly the wed is coming up and amazes me how nice people are to just focus so much on a future bride and give gifts!

it will pretty much be wedding project after wedding project around here for the next little while! just one project at a time but it feels good to mark things off my checklist and see things transform out of my head into a finished state. last nights project, chocolate polka dotted tags with lime green & baby blue ribbon. the tags were cut out on the handy dandy cricut...a true gem when you have projects like this, and i couldn't have loved the help from my mom and sis-in-law any more. it made it fun and fast!

the boys cruise on the 4 wheeler through the back field and pick me up for a ride, i sit next to little jibby and have complete anxiety as i think about how he's going to fall off, how we're going to tip over, how all the boys are screaming with delight while i'm trying to feel enjoyment over my natural womenly nervousness. the wind breezing by, the dips & hills & bumps, the pure grins on the little boys' faces as uncle steve revs up and speeds up. and then just as i think there isn't anything else fun to do, the boys find a rock hill to climb, to get dirty on, to slide down, to walk up bare foot. blue skies, green grass and a backyard of wonder is all these boys need!

i think that come july i will feature a how to make your wedding your own post since i have so much enjoyed making this & that for the upcoming wed day! in the mean time, here is last nights project, oversized flower head bands for the little girls.

simply take each layer of the flower apart and hot glue each piece back together onto the headband. this on average cost me $3 per headband whereas in the stores you can buy a not so cute version for the overpriced cost of $10-$20.

to hyrum we went yesterday for steve's new little nieces baby blessing. with 4 older rambuncsious brothers who have quickly & cutely become my little buddies, she's gonna be a tough girl! she was as quiet and observant as could be during the blessing and such a doll while we all passed her around afterward.

(not to mention, did everyone hear how after days and days of sun, we got dumped on with snow yesterday! arghh we all thought spring was coming!)
